Project proposals should meet as many of the following criteria as possible:

1. Support the development of civil society, and local skills and expertise;
2. Be sustainable;
3. Have a 'multiplier' effect, that is they should have a disproportionate wider impact;
4. Demonstrate a clearly achievable output.

Where possible; projects should:

1. Seek part-funding, including from the private sector, the United Nations, the European Union, academic institutions etc;
2. Build on or complement other activities supported by the British Embassy or the British Council.
