Chevening bursları
The British Government’s ‘British Chevening Scholarships’ are the most prestigious awards available to international students for study in the United Kingdom. There are over 2,200 new Chevening scholarships globally each year.
These scholarships, which are named after Chevening House in Kent, the official country residence of the Foreign Secretary, are available in more than 150 countries, including Turkey.
Chevening scholarships offer an ideal opportunity for young professionals not only to study their chosen subject, but also to meet and network with their peers in the unique learning atmosphere that the UK provides. The ultimate objective is to benefit their countries upon their return.
Candidates are selected by the British Embassy. The programme is managed by the British Council, on behalf of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
The scholarship will cover tuition fees up to £ 10,000 for 12 month programmes. There should not be a tuition fee element for short term, 3 month, programmes. Scholars receive a monthly ‘stipend’ (living allowance) intended to cover the cost of accommodation, subsistence and books. Return air fare is also covered by full FCO funded scholarships.
Chevening scholarships are available for post-graduate level study for a minimum of three months and maximum of one year. In UK most Master level programmes are for 1 year only, (in most countries a Masters takes 2 years).
British Chevening Scholarships for Turkey
The Chevening programme in Turkey is the largest in Europe. Since it began in 1988, over 1600 Turkish scholars have studied in the UK under the British Chevening Scholarship scheme. They now hold positions of responsibility in public administration and government, international organisations, journalism, commerce, science and education, and within the Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) community.
FCO Funded and Joint Funded Chevening Scholarships
Some of our scholarships are fully funded by the British FCO, some are jointly funded. By working with our partners, Turk Egitim Vakfı (TEV), European Union Secretariat General (EUSG), Turkish Education Association (TED) and HSBC, we are able to increase the size of the scholarship programme overall.
